Gladfield Malt can provide malting quality raw spelt on request. Spelt was originally grown over 5,000 years ago in the Middle East. This low fat, high protein ancient grain has become popular lately and New Zealand is now growing Spelt in the Canterbury fields. The grain is screened to remove any chaff and small grains and is perfect for adding something unique to a beer or a whisky. Raw grains will also bring some unfermentable carbohydrates to the brew when unmalted, giving more body to the finished beer.
